With Lockdown 3 made official, the start to 2021 has been bleak. However, Lifestyle remain optimistic for the year ahead and are sure this year is to be THE Year of Outdoor Leisure.
Last Year and its effect on the market
Last summer, some retailers saw a staggering 400% surge in patio heater and fire pit sales. The summer of 2020 made the British people realise just how important it was to make the most of their outdoor space. Whether it be with a new patio heater, BBQ or garden bench, many of us treated our previously neglected green space. Originally, these purchases were made for personal domestic leisure. But as lockdown progressed, patio heaters enabled “COVID-SAFE” household mixing in domestic gardens.
For Lifestyle, the word of 2020 was “adapt”. As a team, Lifestyle adapted and continued to serve and support our customers with quality outdoor leisure products and specialist support. “Making the most of what you’ve got” became a common mentality and research (Think with Google) forecasts that such mentality is here to stay. Many have become driven to optimise their homes and gardens in their spare time. Gardening became of great interest and google searches relating to gardening and growing rose by 250% (Think with Google). This newly found affection for our outdoor space is sure to encourage further or new purchases for the garden.
The hospitality industry also had to adapt last year. Again, making the most of your outdoor space was vital. By optimizing their beer gardens with patio heaters, venues could increase their “Covid Capacity”. It was a delight to see Lifestyle Patio Heaters in action in commercial premises. The Santorini kept guests cosy throughout Tamworth Brewing Co.’s COVID SAFE Beer Festival. Throughout lockdown, patio heaters became social saviours and Lifestyle believe they will remain a common purchase for pubs, microbreweries and restaurants.
2021 – The Year of Outdoor Leisure
The effect of 2020 is sure to stick with us, generally, our newly found interests and hobbies are all very outdoor based.
What 2021 has to offer is unclear. However, Lifestyle predicts that the outdoor leisure industry will continue to grow for years to come. As a nation, we’ve developed an appreciation for the great outdoors and we’re driven to optimize our own outdoor space.
